Page loads and interactivity

This website uses React/Gatsby under the hood. A lot of data gets attached to each one of the mapping pages, so the initial load is likely to take a few moments. Once it does load however, it should be very fast, with essentially no lag between clicking something and getting the updated display.

Most updates are done quietly

If you click a county, the whole display gets updated for that location. It does not loudly inform you of this, just scroll to the graph or chart you want to look at and it should have been updated. Some of the clickable/touchable areas are very small, so if you are having trouble activating one you can zoom in on the map using the large +/- buttons beneath the primary US map.

The data used comes from US Census sources

I obtained this data from the publicly available datasets through the US Census Bureau or various associated agencies such as the BEA (Bureau of Economic Analysis, BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics), with the data extracted from their websites or directly from Census.gov. I generally display the raw data, although in the case of income statistics I have applied an inflation adjustment to try and make different years more comparable.
